Jenson Button: The Best Formula 1 Season in Seven Years

Red Bull and Mercedes

The 2021 Formula 1 season has been beyond expectations. What seemed like an easy season for the seven-time World Champion, Lewis Hamilton has surely turned upon its head since the previous four grand prix. As a result, it the Red Bull’s ace Max Verstappen who has come out on top and is leading the driver’s championship by 18 points. Former F1 World Champion, Jenson Button has surely been among those who did not this season to be so exciting.

The 2021 Formula 1 season has been a battle between Mercedes and Red Bull since the beginning. Not only is the on-track action been so exciting, but the off track drama has been relentless as well. With multiple shots fired from one team to another, no one could predict the winner of any grand prix.

“It’s going to be like that through the season [ebbing and flowing], which is really exciting, and coming into this year we all love a new season,” he said.

“But I didn’t expect it to be like this. I thought it was like the gap year, if you like, from 2020 to 2022 when the new regulations come in. But it’s actually been the most awesome year in seven years, It’s great to see those guys fighting in front, from different teams. And there’s also the rivalry between the drivers and there’s a rivalry between the teams.”

Mercedes and Red Bull may be talked about a lot because of the championship fight, but teams in the midfield are also doing well according to Button.

“You got Toto [Wolff] and Christian [Horner], they’re such personalities and very outspoken, both of them. So it’s that’s awesome to see, I’m enjoying that fight more than the actual drivers – it’s heating up. And it’s not just the top two teams, It’s the teams behind the McLaren AlphaTauri, Ferrari, Alpine.”

“You know, these guys are fighting really, really hard. And there are some great drives coming from many different drivers and different teams, every race, you know, it’s mixed up the whole time,” Button ends.
