Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have become formidable forces and are so ahead of the competition that, since the 2024 season, they have played a combined 33 finals, winning 25 titles. Since the 2024 season, they have split the last eight Majors.
This year, Sinner featured in every Major final, defending his Australian Open title and winning his first Wimbledon title. Alcaraz played the finals of Wimbledon, the French Open, and the US Open, winning the latter two by defeating his arch-rival. And this is why former player Jim Courier has made a bold prediction about the 2026 season. He told Tennis Channel:
I would not bet against it. These guys are going to be deep in tournaments, but who will get through them? We don’t know. Could injuries happen? We don’t know. But right now, they’ve won eight in a row.
Alcaraz and Sinner are in Turin for the ATP Finals, where the latter is bidding to defend his title. The Spaniard is chasing his first title in the year-end championships and has never advanced to the final.
Both players have already qualified for the semifinals without a round-robin defeat. Sinner beat Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, and Felix Auger-Aliassime, while Alcaraz went past Lorenzo Musetti, Taylor Fritz, and Alex de Minaur.
Due to Alcaraz’s round robin wins, he will end the season as the year-end No.1 player, and even if Sinner ends up clinching the title, it won’t affect Alcaraz’s position. The Italian ace lost the No.1 spot after the US Open defeat but reclaimed it following his back-to-back wins at the Vienna Open and the Paris Masters. Sinner is aiming to win his sixth title of the season, while Alcaraz is aiming for his ninth title of the season. Last year in the ATP Finals, Sinner defeated Fritz.
Sinner and Alcaraz are once again projected to meet in the final. They have met five times this season, with Sinner winning only at Wimbledon. Apart from Wimbledon, they clashed in the finals of the Italian Open, French Open, Cincinnati Masters, and the US Open. In their overall head-to-head matchups, Sinner trails 5-10.
Carlos Alcaraz on his indoor hardcourt improvement
Carlos Alcaraz analyzed his indoor hardcourt performance following his win over Lorenzo Musetti. The six-time Grand Slam champion claimed his career’s first indoor hardcourt title at the Rotterdam Open but suffered disappointment when he entered the Paris Masters, as his run was ended by Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the opening round.

I’d say it’s difficult to say this is my best season on indoor hard courts because I just lost in the first round in Paris. Here, we’re still in the semifinals. We’ll see: I already reached the semifinals here in 2023, so I couldn’t really say.
Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference.
In the semifinals, Alcaraz will lock horns with Felix Auger-Aliassime or Alexander Zverev. Sascha is a two-time ATP Finals winner, lifting the title in 2018 and 2021 by defeating Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, respectively. Auger-Aliassime has made his second appearance in the year-end championships and is aiming to reach the semifinals for the first time.
I don’t play too many indoor tournaments during the year, which means I don’t have that much experience playing on this surface. I just know I’m feeling better after each match, and I hope to feel even better in the semifinals.
Carlos Alcaraz added
Alcaraz holds a 4-3 win-loss record over Auger-Aliassime, while against Zverev, his head-to-head record is tied at 6-6. Last year, the 22-year-old failed to progress to the semifinals. In 2023, he lost the semifinals to Djokovic.
