Charles Oliveira has been growing from strength to strength in the UFC in the recent past. His commanding performance and win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 256 meant that talk on him being a contender for the lightweight title began to emerge. The current lightweight champions and for quite a long time is Khabib Nurmagomedov but with the Russia set to no longer take part in the UFC, a new fighter will have to be given the title.

Dustin Poirier is currently ranked number 1 in the lightweight division and hence, UFC commentator Joe Rogan has called for a fight between Poirier and Oliveira to be held to decide who will hold the title after Khabib. He stated on his podcast that there wouldn’t be two better fighters than the duo to stake claim to Khabib’s title.

Joe Rogan campaigns for title fight; Oliveira says Dustin has other plans

Joe Rogan, on the latest episode of his own podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, felt that Oliveira needs to fight Dustin, and eventually for the title. Speaking of which he said: “With Oliveira there are moments—like when Cub Swanson knocked him out—there’s moments when you go back in his career and you go, ‘this guy is not the greatest.’ Then you see him in some fights like the Kevin Lee fight, and he’s just so technical, everything’s so good. He’s never out of position. He doesn’t force anything. Man, I want to see him fight for the title. I wanna see him fight Dustin.”

However, Oliveira took to Twitter to state that the fight might not happen. He wrote, “Me too @joerogan but Dustin has other plans. So lets move on.

Dustin Poirier then responded to Oliveira’s tweet and offered his brand of hot sauce writing, “Respect… Here’s the link Incase you want a bottle of hotsauce. https://heatonist.com/products/poiriers-louisiana-style-hot-sauce?variant=32006789431394

Therefore, judging by this exchange on Twitter, it looks like the dream fight between Poirier and Oliveira might not take place after all.
