The Philadelphia 76ers are on a roll this season. They are the best team in the Eastern Conference as of now. With a 24-12 record they have outplayed the Western giants Utah Jazz. The Utah Jazz are arguably the best team this season. As far as competitiveness is concerned, the West is filled with a tough fighting teams. So it can be considered that Utah Jazz id the best team in the NBA. From the very fact that they are the table toppers in the conference. However, Philadelphia 76ers’ have proved that they are the top guns in the NBA as well. Joel Embiid, took a dig at Rudy Gobert’s comments to hit back at his critics in the post-game interview.
The tough game ended with 131-123 after a OT. Tobias Harris’s last jumper helped the 76ers to tie the game. However, the OT was filled with a lot of drama. Donovan Mitchell was ejected from the game with his second technical foul. It was visible that Embiid escalated the matters before the referees and wanted Mitchell off. Despite a lot of criticism, Joel Embiid finished with 40 huge points and 19 rebounds. This was one of his best double-double career games. Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris played crucial role to fill the deficit in the regular period. A great team game was visible from the Philly side.
Joel Embiid talks about Rudy Gobert
There was a lot of chatter from the arising drama in the overtime. Similarly, Embiid and Gobert stretched it too far verbally. In the post-game interview, Joel gave a befitting reply to Gobert’s criticism. He expressed, “Well, first of all, according to Keith Pompey, I’m scared of and I’m scared of top centers. So, as we saw tonight, it looks like I was very, very scared of him. So, yeah, keep talking. Going up against him, one of my goals is to also be Defensive Player of the Year. When you go against those types of guys, he’s a great player, he does a lot for his team that doesn’t show up in the stat sheet, but when you go against those guys, it brings something else in my game. He added, “I want to dominate on the offensive end, but mainly the defensive end. That’s the goal I set for myself at the beginning of the year.”
This is season has definitely been Joel Embiid’s best so far. He has been in an elite form. Alternate to his previous seasons, he has scored a lot. The big man is even happy with the team performance. Embiid is doing everything that the team has ever asked. But the major question is can he drive Philly to a title this season?
