Coco Gauff vs Katerina Siniakova: Match Preview
16-year-old Coco Gauff, the youngest player to be ranked in the top 100 by the WTA, has been making waves in the Tour. She had her breakthrough at the Wimbledon Championships, becoming the youngest player ever to make it to the main draw. She also produced a first-round upset over Venus Williams, shooting her up to the limelight.
Her 2020 season has been average at best, with a win-loss record of 11-7 heading into this match. She made early exits at the Western & Southern Open as well as the US Open, while making it to the second rounds of the Rome Masters and the French Open. The French Open victory was especially notable because she knocked out the ninth seed, Johanna Konta, in a straight-sets victory.
Her opponent, the Czech Katerina Siniakova is quite experienced on the Tour, playing competitively since 2012. Of late, her favorite surface has been clay, so her claycourt season was quite decent. She registered a win against Angelique Kerber in the Rome Masters and made it to the Strasbourg quarterfinals too. Her French Open run was also good, with her going up to the third round before losing to Kiki Bertens.
However, her hardcourt gameplay has been off this year so she has had disappointing first-round exits at the Western & Southern Open and the US Open.
Coco Gauff vs Katerina Siniakova: Head-to-Head
The two players have never faced each other on the WTA Tour before so this will be their first meeting. The head-to-head stands at 0-0.
Coco Gauff vs Katerina Siniakova: Match Prediction
Gauff comes into this meeting being the more hyped player, due to her breakthroughs. Her immense pace and quick movement around the court will make her a tough nut for Katerina Siniakova to crack. However, the American’s tendency to give away double faults en masse is an opportunity that Siniakova could look to exploit. Coupled with her good movement and her sublime backhand shot-making, Siniakova will provide a fight to Gauff, but Gauff is expected to come through as the winner.
Match Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in three sets against Katerina Siniakova.
