17-year-old midfielder Jude Bellingham has signed for the Germans ditching interest from Manchester United. The youngster has opted to continue his development at Dortmund, a club known for developing young stars.
The midfielder who was once linked with United has completed his move from Birmingham City. Bellingham’s signing was made official by Dortmund through their twitter handle.
Bellingham has signed a 5-year contract with Dortmund signing for 25 million euros. The reports would make him the most expensive teenage signing in history. Bellingham rose to prominence through his performances at Birmingham City in the last 12 months. He has scored 4 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions.
Jude Bellingham thanked Birmingham City for giving him the opportunity. “I can’t thank Birmingham City enough for what the club did for me. Not just this season, but since I came to the club when I was seven.”
Bellingham expressed his excitement on joining Dortmund in the summer. “Now I’m really excited to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe. BVB’s path but especially how they help young players to improve, made the decision very easy for me personally and for my whole family.”
“I cannot wait to play in one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world. Hopefully in front of over 80,000 spectators as soon as possible,” added Bellingham.
The Dortmund hierarchies also expressed their delight on signing Bellingham. Club director Michael Zorc said, “Jude Bellingham chose BVB because he is completely convinced. Primarily because of the sporting perspective that we showed him, he has enormous potential that we want to develop with him in the coming years.”
“He already has a surprising amount of quality in his own possession as well as against the ball, and on top of that, the player also has a strong mentality. “We immediately see Jude as a reinforcement for our professional squad. We will also give him time to get used to the higher level that he needs,” Zorc said of Bellingham.
