UFC welterweight Champion Usman Kamaru uses his wordplay to taunt his UFC 251 opponent Jorge Masvidal.

The two elite fighters are supposed to lock horns at the Fight Island in Abu Dhabi on 12 july 2020. The fight materialised on a short 6-day notice after Gilbert Burns was denied his title shot after testing positive for COVID-19.

The UFC 251, main eventers have left no tables unturned to keep the pre fight banter alive, with Kamaru uploading pictures on twitter and Masvidal retweeting those pictures earlier on. Although the fight materialised on a short notice, the heat between the two has been building up for the better part of a year. Ever since Masvidal emerged as a top contender with three straight finishes, he has been at odds with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

Amidst both fuelling the fire of their rivalry whether in the presence or absence of Media, a tenacious resentment has been built up between the 170-pounders. Kamaru Usman went after Jorge Masvidal during a recent interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

“All I’m going to say is I’m going to bless him with these hands in any way possible. Whether he’s on his back, I’ll bless him with these fists. Whether he’s standing up, I’ll bless him with these fists.”

Earlier in the year, Usman and Masvidal were in each others turf at a media scrum for the Super Bowl, where things turned sour. It is evident that both athletes are looking to settle the score.

It’s up to him how he’s able to handle that. Whether he lets me bless him in the first round where there’s no more suffering, or he can take it like Covington and I’ll bless him for 24 minutes until I get him out of there.”

Given the history that these to have share over the time, the MMA fans as well as the world is too excited for the match as both add a compelling narrative to the bout among other things and the the stylistic depth of the match-up is yet another element to behold. One thing to notice would be that given how impressive Kamaru’s record is with K.O wins, he does not claim to score a K.O against Masvidal.

Masvidal boasts a record of 35 total wins, with 16 K.O’s, 2 submissions and 17 decisions in his favour. While, Usman definitely has an impressive record of having won 16 out of the total of 17 fights he’s been in , an impressive 7 by K.O , 1 via submission and 8 by decision.
Masvidal will also be fighting without Mike Brown in his corner.
