However the main event has been cancelled for now due to some potential medical issue. The cancellation of UFC 251 was announced by MMA Junkies’s John Morgan. The tweet read, “Potential medical issue has been identified in the Kamaru Usman- Gilbert Burns matchup, and neither fighter is boarding the plane to Abu Dhabi tonight for UFC251. Current plan per sources is to reschedule fight for a later date.”

An article on MMA Junkie writes that the issue has been found with Gilbert Burns. Gilbert has reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus. Besides, several of his colleagues that include his coach and brother have also tested positive.

This cancellation has now led to the clash between Halloway and Alexander serving as the main event. Clash between Petr Yan and Jose Aldo will serve as the co-main event.

However Morgan said that they are looking to rebook the Burns-Usman fight for a later date. He said that the fight might be scheduled for the next leg of Fight Island events in September. Besides, in the same event Khabib is set to return to his action.

But the UFC has not yet officially released any statement regarding the original Welterweight main event.
