The French prosecutors have asked the French international to stand trial over his non licet actions which took place before a friendly against Armenia as blackmailers rack out money from the former PSG midfielder five years ago.

Reportedly, Benzema is suspected to influence Valbuena to meet their financial demands as the culprits threatened Valbuena off leaking his intimate video.

Benzema has consistently denied his accusations of such felonious act and only warned Valbuena that such a tape existed.

“I was more than disappointed. I told myself that it was quite simply a lack of respect. You can’t behave like that with anyone.” – Valbuena said in-depth interview in November 2015.

Valbuena currently plays for the Greek club Olympiacos. On 6 March 2020, Valbuena has extended his contract with Olympiacos until the summer of 2021

Benzema hasn’t been picked up for the national squad since accusations been put on him. The Versailles prosecutors has now requested a trail along with four other suspects against the Real Madrid forward.

“Some people can give speeches that can have consequences that go beyond any form of understanding, and I can never forget that. At that moment I considered that a line had been crossed.” – Didier Deschamps (France head coach) told Europe 1 in January 2019.

“I pick French players, all of them are French and it has never occurred to me to not select someone based on their colour or religion. And in the same way the other way around, I would never pick someone based on the same criteria, because that would be just as bad or worse.” – he added.

In February 2020, Benzema extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2022. On 1 March, he made his 500th appearance for Real Madrid in a 2–0 home win over Barcelona in El Clásico. Benzema has scored 22 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions this season.
