Karsten Warholm initially competed in multi-events winning a gold medal at the 2013 World Youth Championships in octathlon. He also holds a Norwegian record in 400m run with a timing of 44.87 seconds. Warholm shares the European indoor 400m record with Thomas Schonlebe on a time of 45.05 seconds.

On 1st July 2021, he produced history after rewriting Kevin Young’s 29 year old world 400m hurdles record of 46.78 seconds to 46.70 seconds at the Oslo Diamond League. This historic feat came on his home turf in front of his home crowd. The 25-year-old quipped saying the record was older than him.

And as the world was trying to recover from his mind-boggling world record in Oslo, the young chap wasn’t yet done putting it into a tizzy. Warholm blazed through the men’s 400m hurdles final at the Tokyo Olympics to shatter his own record by almost a second in just a month by clocking 45.94 seconds. He became the only person to dip below 46 seconds. Needless to say he bagged the gold.

Warholm bagged the gold medal at the 2019 Doha World Championships in 400m hurdles. Two years later, he successfully defended his title at the 2019 Doha World Championships. He is also the reigning European champion.
