It looks like Nick Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev wouldn’t meet inside the octagon. Diaz is rumoured to return to the UFC after being spotted attending the UFC 261, and also transforming himself into phenomenal shape of late. The OG Diaz’s manager Kevin Mubenga announced last September that Nick Diaz would like to come back to the UFC soon.
A Diaz vs Chimaev bout was largely discussed and rumoured to take place soon, since it would also mark the return of the previously ailing Chimaev. But Mubenga, Diaz’s manager has put that to bed saying that Nick Diaz wouldn’t face Khamzat Chimaev.
Speaking to ESPN, Mubenga said that Chimaev might be a good prospect, but hasn’t earned the right fight someone like Nick Diaz. He also revealed that they are concentrating right now on Nick’s brother Nate Diaz.
‘Nate’s up first; our focus is on that‘ – Kevin Mubenga
Mubenga was quoted as saying, “He’s a good prospect, respectfully, but he hasn’t earned the right to a mega-fight vs. Nick Diaz,” Mubenga said. “So let’s put those rumors to rest.”
About Nate, Mubenga said, “Nate’s up first; our focus is on that. We will narrow down more deserving opponents (for Nick) after the fight.”
Nick Diaz last fought in 2015!
It’s been more than 6 years since Nick Diaz fought in the UFC. He faced Anderson Silva and lost via. unanimous decision. However, the fight was later deemed a no-contest, after both Silva and Diaz tested positive for banned substances.
Diaz, then faced further suspensions and slowly lost his touch with the sport, and only in September last year his manager announced that he will be making a return. Diaz is currently 37 years old now.
