Kevin Pietersen Believes Chasing Records In High-Pressure Games Makes Virat Kohli a ‘freakshow’

The debate never ends when it comes to choose between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and unorthodox Australian batsman Steve Smith.

Former cricketer, Kevin Pietersen choose Virat Kohli over Steve Smith because of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s ability to chase runs in high-pressure games.

During an Instagram live session with Zimbabwe former pacer Pommie Mbangwa, Pietersen was asked to pick between to pick one batsman between Kohli and Smith, In reply, Pietersen choose Kohli over Smith because of his chasing ability for India in high-pressure games. He also said that Smith doesn’t even come close to Kohli.

“Kohli is a freakshow, his record chasing winning games for India with the amount of pressure he lives under, Smith does not even come close to him”, Pietersen said during an Instagram live chat with Zimbabwe former pacer.

In the wide range conversation a question comes to choose between Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, Kevin Pietersen again mentioned Kohli because of his chasing records which makes him different from any other batsman.

“Again, Virat because of his chasing numbers. His chasing numbers are frightening, he averages more than 80 when it comes to chasing, he consistently wins games for India, he keeps on turning the numbers, and this matters to me as to how many games you win for your country,” Pietersen said.

Many agreed that Virat Kohli will break all the records of Sachin in the future including his 100 centuries which is still a record and Indian skipper is just 30 centuries away across all formats.

In the ICC Test rankings, Steve Smith holds the first place and Kohli is just behind him to the second place. In ICC ODI rankings, Kohli holds the top position while Smith does not make his position even in the top ten. Virat Kohli’s average is very impressive as compared to Steve Smith across all three formats.
