Key Dates for Premier League 2020-21 revealed

The 2020-21 Premier League season starts on September 12. The fixtures were announced today earlier in the day. Champions Liverpool start their title defence against Bielsa’s Leeds. Arsenal will kickstart their campaign with a London derby against newly promoted Fulham.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Tottenham play against Brighton and Everton, respectively. The two Manchester clubs, City and United have seen their fixtures postponed due to involvement in latter stages of European competitions.

Premier League, known to be one of the most exciting leagues in the world, presents us with some mouth-watering fixtures. This season, the games will come thick and fast, as they look to cover up for the time lost in previous season.

The fans will not have to wait longer, with the first heavyweight clash coming on 19^th September. Werner-led Chelsea will take on the champions, Liverpool. Apart from this, the fans get to witness the Merseyside, Manchester and London derbies, the matches which always ensure drama.

To add to it, there is the Liverpool vs City clash, which some people term as ‘English Clasico’ due to their recent dominance in the league.

Manchester United vs Manchester City – Manchester Derby

The Manchester Derby has become one of the fiercest rivalries since City’s revival in the Premier League. City and United will both go into the season with the aim of knocking Liverpool off their perch.

United prevailed their City rivals in the league this season, winning both their matches. City on the other hand, got their revenge in the League Cup semi-final.

Both the teams will be geared up to better their rivals with Solskjaer and Pep looking to spice up the rivalry. The fans of both the clubs, will hope that this turns out to be yet another classic. United will host City in December while the return fixture will be played in March.

Liverpool vs Everton – The Merseyside Derby

The Merseyside derby has intensified over the years which started as a friendly rivalry. Anfield and Goodison Park, the two stadiums are less than a mile apart from each other. Though the quality of Liverpool and Everton may not be of same level, the game has always provided drama.

Phil Jagielka’s stunner, Divock Origi’s late winner are the recent memories from the Merseyside Derby. Liverpool prevailed over Everton twice this season while one ended in a draw. Now with Ancelotti at the helm, the Evertonians will be hoping to get the better of their bitter rivals.

Goodison Park will hold the first derby of the season while Anfield will welcome Everton in 2021.

Manchester United and Liverpool, the two of the most successful clubs in England. Arguably the most bitter rivalry in English football, the match rarely disappoints. The rivalry goes beyond the 90 minutes of football. It is about the cultural differences between Manchester and Liverpool. Both the teams had their fair share of dominance over the year.

It is fair to say, that in the recent years Liverpool have dominated United, not only on the pitch but the trophy haul. The Merseysiders have their 19^th title in the bag, one off United. Solskjaer’s side will be hoping to knock Liverpool off their perch and get the ragging rights back.

However, the fans will have to wait until the turn of year to witness this classic. Anfield is set to host in January with Old Trafford scheduled to host in May.

Liverpool vs Manchester City

Liverpool and Manchester City have not got the history that any rivalry has. It was only in the last decade or so, that the Citizens have formed a good side. However, the rivalry has taken a turn since the arrival of Klopp and Guardiola. The match has been a great exhibition of football over the last decade.

After the arrival of the two great managers, both the teams have fought tooth and nail for the title. Liverpool lost the title by 1 point before dominating and finally winning it this season. The teams won 1 each this season in the league. The fans will be waiting for the next part of this modern rivalry to unveil when City are hosts in November.

Manchester United vs Arsenal

This match became a fierce rivalry in the late 90’s and 2000’s. That was the time when both the cubs were fighting for Premier League glory.

In the recent years, the violent clashes have reduced which were seen at the time of Vieira’s and Keane’s. However, this match still provides a classic for the fans with bragging rights on the line.

Both the teams will be looking to improve on their performance next season and fight for the title. Old Trafford is the host for the first meeting while the return fixture will be played next year.

Tottenham vs Arsenal – The North London Derby

The rivalry started after Arsenal’s move from Plumstead to Highbury, In the recent years, the North London Derby has always been an even contest. This year, Tottenham got the better of Arsenal twice while one ended in a draw.

Manchester United vs Leeds United – The Roses Rivalry

The bitter English rivals, United and Leeds are set to meet again in the next season. Arguably, the fiercest rivalry in England, the two teams were kept apart due to Leeds absence in the Premier League. However, Bielsa has led Leeds to the topflight and will hope to win in the ‘Roses Rivalry’.

The two sides will first meet in December at Old Trafford. The return fixture at Elland Road will be played on April 24^th.
