Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin Umar Nurmagomedov impresses on UFC debut!

The cousin of UFC icon Khabib Nurmagomedov, Umar Nurmagomedov cruised to victory on his UFC debut with a win over Sergey Morozov at UFC Fight Island 8. Starting off as the favorite with odds of -500, Umar began brightly but was kept at bay by a resolute Morozov. Umar soon grew into the fight to end the first round on top before clinching victory in the second round with a rear naked choke submission.

With the win, Umar improved his fighting record to 13-0 while Morozov’s terrific run of 5 consecutive victories came to an end. Soon after his win, fans of Umar as well as cousin Khabib have excitedly stated that this could be a start of something special. Some have termed it a ‘changing of the guard’.

5 of Umar Nurmagomedov’s previous 12 wins had been wins via submission. The same was expected in today’s match against Morozov as well and Umar didn’t disappoint. It wasn’t a particularly facile win however, as the initial stages of the first round proved to be evenly matched. Umar’s all-round game was on display as he kept going for strikes and takedowns.

Morozov then kept landing blows and countering Umar by getting back to his feet quickly after takedowns. Towards the end of the first round however, a fierce takedown from Umar made him finish the round on top.

The winning blow came in the second round as Umar produced a quick head kick that shook Morozov. The bout was soon over through submission as Morozov was rendered unconscious. “Happy. I feel good,” said Umar after the fight and it looks evident that this Nurmagomedov is a one to watch out for. Nurmagomedov by name, Nurmagomedov by nature!
