As the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games conclude today at Guwahati, Maharashtra has topped the medal tally for the second year in a row.

Maharashtra claims the Numero Uno position at the Khelo India Youth Games yet again! All hail the champion state!#KIYGClosingCeremony #KheloIndia #KIYG2020 #KheloIndia2020 #ChaloGuwahati@KirenRijiju @sarbanandsonwal @RijijuOffice @PMOIndia @CMOfficeAssam @IndiaSports pic.twitter.com/9tEsWNcU8g

Athletes from the state have won 256 medals including 78 Golds, 77 Silvers and 101 Bronzes. Haryana is in 2nd place with 68 Golds, 60 Silvers and 72 Bronzes to make it 200 medals in total. Delhi is 3rd with 122 medals, including 39 Golds, 36 Silvers and 47 Bronzes.

Interestingly the same 3 states have made up the top 3 in all 3 editions of the Games. At the inaugural 2018 edition however it was Haryana at the top with Maharashtra 2nd and Delhi 3rd.

Majority of Maharastra’s medals have come from gymnastics, swimming, weightlifting, cycling and kho-kho. Haryana and/or Delhi have a presence in the top 3 of almost all sports with majority of Haryana’s Golds coming from wrestling, shooting, boxing and kabaddi, and those of Delhi from judo, swimming and athletics.
