KL Rahul got back to terrific form as he compiled a stylish century in the second ODI against England to take India to a very strong position at the end of the first innings. Earlier, India were put in to bat and they didn’t get off to as good a start as they would have wanted. Shikhar Dhawan was removed early by Reece Topley before Sam Curran accounted for Rohit Sharma.
It was left to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to rescue India and that was exactly what they did by beginning patiently and guarding their wickets. They then started opening up and got half-centuries. Just as Kohli looked set for his much-awaited century, he got out to Adil Rashid, leaving Rahul to partner Rishabh Pant who replaced the injured Shreyas Iyer, to take India to a competitive total.
Rahul and Pant then started going all guns blazing by taking on the English bowlers. On a Pune pitch that did not offer much, the bowlers took a bashing as they were hit all around the ground. Rahul brought up his hundred with a single in the 44th over and soaked in the applause. He then came up with his trademark ‘hands in ears’ celebration. Rahul was finally dismissed for 108 by Tom Curran.
