Koneru Humpy reached Semi-finals of Women’s Speed Chess Championship


Indian top chess player Koneru Humpy defeated Valentine Gunina 6-5 and reached Semifinal of fourth Grand Prix leg of the FIDE Chess.com Women’s Speed Chess Championship.

World no. 2 Humpy started well and managed to lead against Russian players. Harika Dronavalli had a bad day and lost to world champion Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia by 3-9.

World No. 1 Hou Yifan of China booked semifinal spot with a 7.5-3.5 win against Zhansaya Abdumalik from Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals. Yifan and Humpy were the first two players to reach the semis.

Another semifinal spot was booked by Iran’s Sarasadat Khademalsharieh, by virtue of a surprise victory over Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine by 7.5-3.5.

Two players to score the highest no of cumulative Grand Prix points in all Grand Prix legs will qualify for the Superfinal on July 20.
