Lando Norris will drive for McLaren in the upcoming season, alongside the experienced Australian, Daniel Riccardo. This will be Norris’ third season in F1, after having signed with McLaren in 2019. In his first year, the Brit driver’s best finish was P6, whereas his teammate, Carlos Sainz secured a podium finish.

In 2020, Norris stood on the podium after finishing third in season-opening Austrian Grand Prix. However, after the first race, Norris could not find another podium finish for himself and ended up with 97 championship points. The points proved vital for McLaren and helped them finish third in the constructors rankings.

This season McLaren hopes of cutting the gap on Red Bull and Mercedes. Norris believes working on the finer points will help the team, have a better year in 2021. The Brit driver revealed that he often feels that he has underachieved in his F1 career so far, and has the ability to do much better.

“It’s more often than not I feel like I’ve underachieved and know I’ve not done what I’m capable of doing,” Norris said. “It’s trying to reach that target more, reach my own target of being happy with the job I’ve done and being in that group a little more,” he added.

Norris not very happy with his performances last season

Lando Norris stated that he is working very hard to become a better driver and is working on the small margins that cost him dearly in the 2020 season. The Brit driver also revealed that he was unhappy with his performances last year as he believes he is capable of doing better for his team.

That’s something that happens year on year, as you have not less and less but smaller and smaller things to work on, and there are of course some bigger and some slightly smaller things still. But how I’m approaching it is still very similar to last year,” Norris said.

I’m just giving it my all and working as hard as possible to be a better driver, be as far up the order as I can, and that’s purely my mentality,” he added.

No matter what session it is, it’s to do my best, be as high up the order as I can be and if I’ve not done that, I’m not very happy and quite disappointed in myself as I know what I’m capable of doing and what I’m not capable of doing,” the McLaren driver said.
