‘I wouldn’t mind a third fight with Valentina Shevchenko’ – Laura Sanko believes Amanda Nunes vs Valentina Shevchenko trilogy bout makes sense

Former MMA fighter and UFC reporter Laura Sanko believes Amanda Nunes vs Valentina Shevchenko trilogy fight would do the MMA community a world of good. The pair have already met twice – at UFC 196 and UFC 215, with both the matches going Amanda Nunes’s way. But, ‘The Lioness’ wasn’t able to finish the current women’s flyweight champion both the times, with the second fight being a very close victory (via split decision).

Speaking about this in an interview with MMA Fighting, Lauro Sanko praised Amanda Nunes for the fighter she is and also claimed that she wouldn’t mind Amanda taking on Julianna Pena or Germaine de Randamie, before going on to explain how a fight against Valentina Shevchenko would be a blockbuster. She reasoned it saying that Valentina has been the only woman in the UFC who has ever come close to defeating Amanda Nunes.

In terms of PPV pull, Nunes vs. Shevchenko 3 makes a lot of sense

Speaking about Amanda Nunes’s exploits in the UFC, Laura Sanko said, “It’s so hard, right? She has cleared out two divisions. I wouldn’t mind the Julianna Pena fight, and I actually wouldn’t mind the Germaine de Randamie fight. That’s an interesting thought she puts out there because—if you’re just going down a list—she’s already fought her, she’s already beat her and normally you would scratch that one off, but that was a good fight. If Germaine could approach it differently, you might see something slightly different. [via MMA Fighting]

Justifying her take on Amanda facing Valentina again, Sanko said, “But you make these straw man arguments because there is no clear good answer. I wouldn’t mind a third fight with Valentina Shevchenko. She has come the closest to beating Amanda Nunes [during this run] and a lot of people thought she did beat Amanda Nunes in the second one. For her to be the one who has come the closest, to have equality in terms of their status as fighters makes the fight way more interesting—no offense to Julianna Pena, Germaine de Randamie or any other contender. She further added, “In terms of PPV pull, Nunes vs. Shevchenko 3 makes a lot of sense, although normally you don’t get that third fight when you’ve beaten someone twice. That’s just the situation we’re in.” [via MMA Fighting]
