Can LeBron James still win the MVP even after his injury?

LeBron James

It is not an unknown fact to the NBA and Basketball fanatics that LA Lakers superstar, LeBron James has been snubbed for the MVP award over the past few years. The reason has been different and vague every time, be it because of voter fatigue or be it because of criteria change. In the 2020-21 season, LeBron James was ever so dominant leading the LA Lakers to dominant displays, keeping them way ahead in the playoff spot.

Even though the team missed Anthony Davis, LeBron James made sure his team doesn’t lack inspiration from any sort. But in LA Lakers playing against Atlanta Hawks, Solomon Hills’ weird dive onto the ankle of the King, did what no LA Lakers fan wanted. LeBron James ended up leaving the game because of right ankle injury which will make him miss the action for weeks to come.

Where is LeBron James in the MVP race?

But what will this injury do to LeBron James’ MVP candidature? In Bron’s absence, the Lakers lost another game, falling 94-111 to the Suns. LeBron was in attendance on the sideline and was wearing a boot for his ankle injury while sitting. This is now the Lakers’ second loss in a row without him. They face the Pelicans and the 76ers next and even both of those games could end in a similar fashion for the Lakers.

As the Lakers record becomes worse, Bron’s campaign grows weaker. The usual requirement for an MVP campaign is to be the best player on the best team. But if the Lakers keep dwindling, they will not even be close to the #1 seed in the West.

Having said that as of now Nikola Jokic, Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo are above LeBron James in the MVP ranks. However, any true LeBron fan would be hoping for his immediate recovery to not only be able to win the MVP award, but also guide his team to the playoff spot with ease.
