Formula 1 is a dangerous sport, and is considered one of the most expensive in the world too. Teams are constantly evolving and developing their cars to make them faster, as every season the fight intensifies. Teams like Mercedes and Ferrari spend upwards of $400 million every year to make their cars the best of the best. Even teams like Williams and Haas spend around $150 million, which is considered on the lower side of spending.

As the drivers pour their heart and soul into driving in this dangerous sport, their pay is just as much. However, even though Max Verstappen picked up the title this year, it was Lewis Hamilton who had the biggest salary this year. Forbes released a list earlier this year on the top paid Formula 1 drivers, with some surprising names on the list.

The Formula 1 community is a closely knit one, and all the salaries are just estimates from “financial documents, legal filings and press leaks, as well as conversations with industry insiders and consultants.” according to Autoweek. Forbes also is quick to point out that its figures do not include taxes or agents’ fees.
