Portugal GP: Lewis Hamilton wins his second race of the season; Max Verstappen finishes P2

A lot was expected from the third race of the season in Portugal. However, the Portugal GP was not as fascinating as the two earlier races this season. Lewis Hamilton grabbed his second win of the season, as he outraced his teammate, Valtteri Bottas. Hamilton started from the second spot in qualifying, and dominated for majority of the race.

On the other hand, Valtteri Bottas who took pole position on Saturday, finished on the third spot. Max Verstappen, a strong contender for the championship, finished P2, after making up one place in the main race. Sergio Perez finished P4, whereas, Lando Norris continued his fine form, as he took the fifth spot. The young Briton has now scored points in all of the three races this season so far, and secured a podium finish in Imola.

Fernando Alonso finishes in top 10; Vettel misses out

Fernando Alonso secured the first points of his season, as he finished on the eighth spot. Daniel Ricciardo started from the 16th spot, but recovered well and finished P9. Pierre Gasly rounded off the top 10, by claiming the tenth spot.

However, Sebastian Vettel failed to get among the points on Sunday. The German made it to the Q3 for the first time since the British GP, however, he managed to finish only on the 13th spot. Kimi Raikkonen was the only driver who failed to finish the race. Charles Leclerc finished P6, whereas, his Ferrari teammate failed to grab some valuable points, as he finished P11.

This was the 97th career victory for Lewis Hamilton, as he stretches his lead at the top of the championship rankings. Sergio Perez ensured that Red Bull grabbed crucial points, in order to keep the pressure on Mercedes.
