Coco Gauff came into limelight immediately when she defeated compatriot Venus Williams in her Grand Slam debut at the Wimbledon Championships in 2019. However, that is not the only success she has tasted till now. The American became the youngest player in the open era to play in the main draw of the Grand Slam. Moreover, she became the first American woman in 30 years to reach at least the third round of her first three Grand Slams.

A break as long as of nearly half-year can make or break a player. However, the young sensation is unfazed by this obstacle as she has started it on a positive note in her first tournament amidst the coronavirus pandemic. She has registered a gritty win in her first-round match of women singles in the ongoing 2020 Top Seed Open in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.

Hard-fought win for Gauff

In the Round of 32 in women singles, Gauff scored a hard-fought come-from-behind victory over her fellow countrywoman Catherine Dolehide 7-5, 7-5. She displayed a never-say-die attitude once again to overcome the challenge.

However, she had to face defeat in women doubles Round of 16 encounters. The third-seeded American duo of Gauff and Mcnally narrowly lost to unseeded pair of Bouzkova and Teichmann 6-4, 4-6, 6-10.

Mouth-Watering clash in Round of 16

In the next round, the 16-year-old American will square off against second-seeded Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. It will be a match of equals as both are free-striking, fearless players. Sabalenka, like Gauff, had to play a marathon three-set match to emerge victoriously and also participated in doubles afterwards. This will set up to a nerve-wracking match as both have acclimatized to the conditions of the court and their style of playing is also similar.
