Most half centuries in IPL: List of players with most fifties in IPL history

The list of players who have hit the most half-centuries in IPL history is topped by David Warner and features only two other overseas players.

The annual sporting extravaganza of India, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is undoubtedly the most popular league in the world. The tournament features players from around the world, both young and experienced, competing against the best in the business to be crowned the champion of Indian T20 cricket.

The tournament is characterized by the batsmen taking apart the bowling line-ups. Big shots and the bowlers getting smashed around the park have been the hallmark of the tournament, as it is with T20 cricket in general. And so half centuries are a regular feature in the format given the fast-forward nature of it.

On that note, we take a look at the players who have scored the most half-centuries in the tournament’s history.

5. Suresh Raina (38 Half Centuries)

Suresh Raina has been one of the most consistent players in the history of the IPL. Appearing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Lions (GL) for two years when the former was banned, the UP batsman has always ensured that he keeps the scoreboard ticking with his batting.

Raina has hit a total of 48 fifties in his IPL career so far and can add to the tally this year when he takes the field for CSK yet again.

4. Rohit Sharma (39 Half Centuries)

IPL’s most decorated captain Rohit Sharma joins the list at number four. The prolific opener has been Mumbai Indians‘ batting mainstay for quite some years now. While his prowess with the bat is well known, Rohit has displayed exceptional leadership skills having led the franchise to five IPL titles.

Sharma has smashed 39 half-centuries along with a ton in his 200 IPL games. The Mumbai opener has amassed 5230 runs in the cash-rich league so far.

3. Virat Kohli (39 Half Centuries)

The second entrant on the list is Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Indian team captain Virat Kohli. Playing for RCB right from the very beginning, Kohli has been the face of the side. Even amidst the team’s struggle to win an IPL trophy that keeps continuing, the reliable batter has kept putting up consistent performances.

Kohli has smashed 39 half-centuries on his way to becoming the highest run-getter in the history of the league. The RCB skipper has a whopping 5878 runs to his name in the league.

2. Shikhar Dhawan (41 Half Centuries)

Topping the list and way ahead of the rest is Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Shikhar Dhawan. The left-handed batsman is another player who has been the hallmark of consistency in the IPL as an opener. Dhawan continues to go strong and is expected to only pull away from the rest, if he continues the form from last year.

Dhawan has hit a total of 41 half-centuries in his IPL career en route to 5197 runs in the cash-rich league.

The first Aussie in the top 5, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner is without a doubt one of the greatest performers in the history of the tournament. The swashbuckling Australian has been crucial for SRH in providing blazing starts and he has been one of the most reliable batters for the side.

Warner has hammered 48 fifties in the league already and is the third-highest all-time run-getter in the league. The Aussie opener has 5254 runs to his name in the league and is renowned for leading the Sunrisers by example.
