List of Indian Cricketers who Debuted Before MS Dhoni, But haven’t retired yet

Former Indian captain, MS Dhoni left the entire nation in shock after announcing his retirement from international cricket on 15th August 2020. He played his last international match in the heart-breaking semi-final loss against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup and was on a sabbatical since. Many believed that he would play till 2021 T20 World Cup, but MS Dhoni’s retirement news put all the speculations to rest.

Dhoni retired from international cricket at the age of 39. Though, there are still a few cricketers who made their international debut earlier than him but haven’t called time to their international cricket yet.

Here’s a look at 4 of them:

 1. Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel

Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Parthiv Patel made his international cricket debut at just 17 years of age. He enjoyed a couple of good overseas tours but the arrival of MS Dhoni shut doors of making into international team for a very long time. He is currently 35 years old but still hasn’t taken retirement from international cricket.

Patel has played 25 Tests and 38 ODIs for India, scoring 934 and 736 runs respectively.

2. Harbhajan Singh

India’s one of the finest spinners, Harbhajan Singh made his debut in international cricket back in 1998. He became a household name in world cricket in 2001 after exhibiting a stupendous performance in the 2001 Border-Gavaskar Series.

Singh remained India’s first-choice spinner for over a decade but the arrival of Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja closed the doors of him making in Indian Cricket Team. Though, it is perhaps unlikely that Harbhajan would get India call-up but he is still hopeful of making a comeback. He hasn’t yet called time to his international cricket career and is currently plying his trade for CSK in IPL.

3. Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra

IPL veteran, Amit Mishra made his debut against South Africa in 2003. He has bowled some crucial spells for India but couldn’t quite manage to cement his place for a substantial period. He played his last ODI against New Zealand in 2016 but hasn’t announced his retirement from international cricket.

In his international cricket, he has played 22 Tests and 36 One-Day International, in which he has managed to pick 76 and 64 wickets respectively.

4. Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik

He had all the ingredients to become a star in International cricket. However, inconsistent performance in the early part of his career and the arrival of MS Dhoni meant he always stayed at the sidelines. Dinesh Karthik was part of India’s 2019 World Cup squad and also played the semi-final game against New Zealand.

Karthik made his international debut against England in 2004. He is currently 35 years old and is yet to announce his retirement from international cricket.

Karthik is currently eying a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad. Karthik has represented Indian Cricket Team in 26 Tests and 94 One-Day Internationals.
