The Indian challenge at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics ended with a Gold as Neeraj Chopra bagged the Gold in the Men’s Javelin Throw to become the first Indian to win a Gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He also became the first-ever Indian to clinch the Gold in the track and field event to give India its 10th Gold medal at the Olympic Games.

Neeraj’s gold also meant that the Tokyo Games become the most successful Games for the nation as India cap off the Tokyo Games with 7 medals, breaking the record set at the 2012 London Olympics when the Indian athletes got 6 medals. While Neeraj’s victory is the solitary Gold, India won 2 Silver and 4 Bronze medals in Tokyo.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won the first Silver of this year’s Games winning the medal in the Women’s 49kg Weightlifting on the opening day of the Games on 24th July. PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman with two Olympic medals when she won the Bronze in Women’s Badminton Singles on 1st August. Lovlina Borgohain added another Bronze on 4th August in the Women’s welterweight boxing.

The Men’s Hockey team started Day-13 with a Bronze in a thrilling comeback match against Germany. The day got better for Indians as wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya came close to the Gold but had to settle for the Silver in the Men’s Freestyle 57kg Wrestling event on 5th August.

On the penultimate day of the Tokyo Olympics, Indians bagged 2 more medals with wrestler Bajrang Punia bagging the Bronze in Men’s freestyle 65kg before Neeraj went on to finish the Indian challenge with a historic Gold that is surely going to inspire future generations.
