Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele this summer. The 23-year old Frenchman will enter the final year of his contract which runs out in 2022.

Manchester United were thwarted by Borussia Dortmund this season in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho as they did not lower their demands for the young winger. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Red Devils tried to lure him on loan in the last summer transfer window with an option to make his move permanent, however, the deal did not go through and the winger stayed at the Nou Camp.

The renowned Spanish outlet have claimed that Man Utd have already moved to sign the Les Bleus attacker and did make contact with his agent in winter.

The £215,000-a-week star will be out of contract in less than 14 months and the Spanish source claims that Barca are hoping to agree a new deal with him now that he is injury free. If Dembele does not pun pen to paper, then the Catalan giants will have to sell him in the next transfer window.

The World Cup winning attacker was bought by the La Liga giants to replace Neymar but he has spent majority of the time out injured. In the last campaign, the Les Bleus winger only started three league games. However, he seems to have moved on from his fitness issues and has started playing the football that fans wanted to see after his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Dembele has played 35 games this season under Koeman and has scored 9 times for Barcelona. He has also featured for the France National team and is returning to his old form.

Despite Daniel James’ resurgence, United do lack an overwhelming force on the right-wing. While Jadon Sancho continues to be on the club’s radar, they cannot afford to put all their eggs in one basket.

The side’s interested is said to be spurred by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself. The Norwegian has been on the outlook for Dembele since the last six months with the manager extremely eager to induct him in his plans.
