Indian Hockey team captain, Manpreet Singh recalled the words of former Captain and legendary player Dhanraj Pillay as he said that his words keep him motivated before any game.
During an question and answer session on twitter, when it was asked to Manpreet to share something that Pillay has taught him then he replied, “These are his words that we will always remember ‘if you believe in yourself, you will be able to beat any team’ and that keeps us motivated before any match.”
Pillay is known as one of the best hockey players India has ever produced. He is the only player to have played in four Olympics, four World Cups, four Champion Trophies and four Asian Games.
Under Pillay’s captaincy, India won Asian Games (1998) and Asia Cup (2003). He was also the highest goal scorer in the Bangkok Asian Games.
Currently, the Indian Men’s hockey team is training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) facility at Bengaluru due to Coronavirus pandemic enforced lockdown.
