World No.4, Daniil Medvedev ended his 2020 season on a high. The Russian won the season-ending ATP Finals in London, going unbeaten in the entire tournament. He also managed to bag the Paris Bercy title to round off a successful 2020 season. His exploits on the court has earned him plaudits from all over the world.

Recently, former Russian player turned politician Marat Safin praised his countrymen for his technique and approach towards the game.

Very happy with Medvedev’s fighting ability: Safin

Former Grand Slam Champion spoke at length about Medvedev in a recent interview with Match TV.

According to Safin, Medvedev has a fighting ability and his opponent are forced to work hard if they want to win against him. The Russian politician also heaped praises on Medvedev’s coach Gilles Cervara, calling him a ‘great person’.

“Medvedev has an interesting technique. He knows what to do, you have to fight with him. At the ATP Cup, they scolded me, cursed me. His coach is a great guy,” said Safin.

Safin also admired Medvedev’s control over his emotions. He believes that Medvedev’s conduct after his Finals victory sets an example.

“A person grows, grows wiser, and understands what things need to be removed. From my own experience. That doesn’t mean he has to be a seal or a cyborg. Medvedev is working to the limit. You need to be able to manage emotions,” added the former World No.1.

Height is an advantage for Medvedev: Safin

Safin went to talk about the special abilities that he has observed in several players.

Safin believes that Daniil Medvedev’s tall stature can help him hit a tower with his racket.

“Tim is an Austrian, everything is clear, everything is laid out on the shelves. Khachanov can gouge a racket, Rublev can win and then throw balls, Medvedev can hit the tower with a racket,” concluded Safin.

Experts say that height is a massive advantage for The Russian. Medvedev, who is 6’4″, serves better because of his height. At the ATP finals, Medvedev delivered a remarkable 41 aces, while only conceding 14 in 5 matches.
