Marcelo adds to Real Madrid’s injury woes; set to miss three weeks

Real Madrid secured a 2-0 win over Getafe in their recent La Liga fixture. However, the win will not taste as sweet as Zidane would have liked because of an injury Marcelo suffered during the game.

Zidane tried a new 3-4-3 formation for the game against Getafe and it worked to perfection for Madrid. Marvin and Marcelo played in new wing-back roles in the new formation and led Real Madrid to a comfortable victory.

Real Madrid had 12 fit first players for the match against Getafe

After a good performance in a left-wing-back role against Getafe on Tuesday night, the Brazilian had to go off just before the end of the game with an issue with the soleus muscle of his left calf.

He could now miss the Champions League last 16 first leg away to Atalanta on 24 February. Marcelo suffered a muscle injury which will leave him out of action for atleast 3 weeks.

“After tests carried out today on our player Marcelo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he was diagnosed with a muscle injury in his left calf,” the club confirmed in a statement.

The injury is a blow for Marcelo, who would have got more game time owing to Real Madrid’s other injury problems, but now instead will face a period out of the game.

Injury problems have marred Real Madrid’s season so far as they have 9 players out injured currently. Madrid went into the game against Getafe with only 12 fit first team players.

Marcelo fins company in Ramos, Militao, Odriozola, Valverde, Rodrygo, Hazard, Carvajal and Vazquez all of whom are injured currently. Zidane will now have to find a new Castilla player to fill in Marcelo’s boots for the next match.
