Madrid Open 2021: Here’s What Matteo Berrettini had to say to girlfriend Ajla on his Quarter-final win

Matteo Berrettini is currently in Madrid preparing for his Semi-final clash with Norwegian Casper Ruud. The twenty-five year old Italian is back on court for the clay court swing of the season after spending a considerable amount of time out, close to two months, due to an abdominal injury.

He suffered the injury during his third round clash with Karen Khachanov. Although the Italian won that match, in straight sets, 7-6 7-6 7-6, he suffered an abdominal injury. Initially it wasn’t thought to be that serious, but later it was evident that he wouldn’t be able to compete in his fourth round match with Stefanos Tsitsipas.

But those disappointments are behind him as Berrettini recently won his fourth ATP Title on tour, at the clay courts of Belgrade. He beat the inform Aslan Karatsev in the final of that event. Berrettini as a kid competed in swimming, football and judo before pursuing a pro tennis career when younger brother, Jacopo, asked him to play tennis more. The 6foot 4 inch tall good looking Italian is currently dating Australian tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic.

After his victory over Cristian Garín in the Quarter-finals of the Madrid Open, Berrettini took the opportunity to dedicate the win to his girlfriend and wish her a happy twenty-eighth birthday. His girlfriend is WTA player Ajla Tomljanovic.

Berrettini said that he will soon join Tomljanovic in Rome. She is there to play the qualifiers for the Rome Open. Berrettini said, “She is a bright and cheerful girl. I will see her in Rome, she plays qualies on Saturday.”
