Formula One is planning to diversify it’s racing structure and hold three sprint races in 2021. Canada, Italy and Brazil have been shortlisted as the potential countries where the trial races can be held. A 100 km sprint race is proposed which would take place instead of the qualifying event for the Sunday’s main race.

F1 Ferrari Boss, Binotto said that his team had been very engaged in voicing their support for the sprint races, which would lead to greater unpredictability in the races.

We believe that changing for more spectacular and eventually for unpredictable races will be great,” Binotto said. “We are proactive in the discussions. We are supporting a change if that change will somehow achieve the goal and the objective I just mentioned. Discussions are ongoing. Discussions at the moment at least seem to be promising for a good output,” he added.

Binotto hoped that the teams would cooperate to reach a common goal. He believes that going into the details and considering all scenarios, is the key in this matter.

But I still think we need to look at all the details. Details will make the difference in that respect. So I think teamwork really has to continue, and hopefully we will find a good solution,” he said.

Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc believes that the idea of sprint races is exciting and should at least be tried this season. “I think it should at least be tried,” Leclerc said. “We need to understand how all of this will work with the points etc. The most important thing is that the main race remains the main race, and that the value of the main race doesn’t go down. This is the main point on my side,” he added.
