Toto Wolff the Mercedes Team Principal has praised Max Verstappen for the brilliant outing he has yesterday for the Red Bull F1 team.
Max Verstappen was on pole in the FP2 session of the Bahrain Grand Prix and things are looking really promising for the 2021 Formula One champion. Toto Wolff even said, “Max is in a league of his own.”
The first two practice sessions of the Bahrain Grand Prix have given the fans a fair idea as to who is in running for the podium positions during this Sunday’s race in Bahrain. As things stand, Red Bull and Ferrari are looking the most likely to secure the first win of the 2022 F1 season.
On one hand, the Friday Practice sessions brought a lot of positives for Red Bull and Ferrari whereas, on the other hand, the picture was quite the opposite in the Mercedes camp. The porpoising issue that was encountered by Mercedes during pre-season testing has still not gone away and the drivers were seen complaining about the issue.
Mercedes are not looking like the Mercedes of the past and these are worrying signs for Toto Wolff and co.
Toto Wolff acknowledges the superiority of Max Verstappen
During post-practice interviews on Friday Toto was not in a buoyant mood and didn’t get into details about the problems faced by the team. However, one thing that he did talk about is the squash-buckling performance of Max Verstappen on Friday.
After yesterday’s performance, Toto Wolff admitted that Red Bull is in a better position and while praising Max said, “Max is in a league of his own”
George Russell, the Mercedes driver also gave his thoughts after practice in Bahrain and according to him, the Mercedes team is going to be engaged in a mid-field tussle against the lights of AlphaTauri and Alfa Romeo in Bahrain.
While Mercedes is expecting a mid-field battle, Red Bull and Ferrari are going to be fighting for the win in Bahrain given the performances of the respective teams so far.
Moreover, the flying rumour in the paddock at the moment is that RedBull hasn’t shown their full hand on Friday and that there is still a bit more engine performance that the Red Bull team is keeping close to their chest.
