Max Verstappen secured his third consecutive podium finish this season, as he finished P2 at the Portugal GP. Starting from the third spot on Sunday, the Dutch driver made up a place to finish on the second spot.

Lewis Hamilton extended his lead at the top of the championship, as he won his second race of the season in Portugal. Valtteri Bottas, who took the pole position in Saturday’s qualifying, finished on the third spot. Max Verstappen surpassed Bottas, after the Finnish driver had a slow pit-stop that lasted over 3 seconds.

Max Verstappen now has 61 points in the championship, as Lewis Hamilton tops the charts with 69 points. Valtteri Bottas missed out on an incredible opportunity to claim the victory in Portugal on Sunday.

Max Verstappen reveals his thoughts on the race

Max Verstappen stated that he failed to keep the pressure on Lewis Hamilton towards the end, and accepted the fact that Red Bull lacked a bit of pace.

I tried to put the pressure on Lewis, but in the end I think we just lacked a little bit of pace out there today,said Verstappen.

Max Verstappen got some helping from his teammate, Sergio Perez who was held out on the same set of tyres for 51 laps. The Mexican tried to hold off Lewis Hamilton to buy his teammate some precious time. However, the Briton surpassed him with considerable ease. Perez finished the race on P4, which was his best finish in his first three races for Red Bull.
