Men’s Hammer Throw: Poland Dominates as Wojciech Nowiki Wins Gold with Massive Throw

The finals of the men’s hammer throw saw some of the best throws by several of the finalists, in what turned out to be an exciting finals. Poland’s Wojciech Nowiki was a favourite to win a medal, along with his compatriot Pawel Fajdek, who is world no. 1 and has a personal best throw of 83.93m.

Nowiki had a strong first throw, as he started out with a 81.18m, which immediately put him into first place. Not one of Nowiki’s throws went below the 80m mark, as he gave an exceptional performance, extending his lead in the third attempt with a throw of 82.52m, a personal best for him as well.

Norway’s Eivind Henrikson took the silver medal, after he put himself in second place after his first throw of 79.18m. He bettered his performance in the fifth round, after he threw a 81.58m. This was not only a personal best for Henrikson, but also a national record after an excellent performance.

The 4 time world champion, Poland’s Pawel Fajdek could only manage a bronze, after a throw of 81.53m in the second round put him in the third spot. Poland have dominated the hammer throw event at the Olympics, after Anita Wlodarczyk became a 3 time Olympic Champion in women’s hammer throw.

Twitter celebrated an exceptional performance from Nowiki who won the gold medal.

It was a double podium finish for Poland, as Nowiki took gold and Fajdek took bronze.
