Stefanos Tsitsipas dominates from start to finish

Tsitsipas beat his second round opponent Damir Džumhur in straight sets 6-1 6-4. Tsitsipas who broke his opponent quickly in the first set hardly ever looked like he was in trouble.

Džumhur, the lucky loser, had no answers to Tsitsipas’s constant pressure. With this win, second seed Tsitsipas glides into the third round where he will face Kei Nishikori

Andrey Rublev, the Russian, overcomes the American

Rublev, seeded fourth in this year’s event, overcame Tennys Sandgren in straight sets 6-1 6-2. It was a near perfect match for Rublev who was only troubled by the rain. There were two rain interruptions that the Russian had to contend with.

Such a dominating performance sends out a message to the rest of the field, and Rublev certainly did that. His next round opponent is Márton Fucsovics.

Denis Shapovalov wins a tight one

Shapovalov the sixth seed overcame a spirited performance by Ilya Ivashka to win in three sets 6-7 6-4 6-4. Shapovalov is usually very good with his first serves, and he has worked exclusively on that since the Australian Open.

But his first serve was in only 63%of the times and that reflected in the scoreline as well. Shapovalov needs improvements in his serve and game if he wants to go deep in the tournament. His third round opponent is twenty sixth seed Hubert Hurkacz

Alex de Minaur, Fabio Fognini and Cristian Garin stumble out of the tournament

Fifteenth seed Minaur lost a tough three set match to Columbian Daniel Elahi Galan. Galan lost the first set but made a strong comeback to take the next two sets, in the end winning 4-6 6-3 6-4.

Fognini lost in three sets to Sebastian Korda of the USA. Fognini won the first set but then Korda made a brave comeback to win in three against the tenth seed from Italy. The scoreline 6-1 4-6 2-6.

Thirteenth seed Garin also had some tough luck against veteran Marin Cilic. He won the first set, but looked on helplessly as he saw Cilic make a comeback and take the match in three sets, 6-3 5-7 6-7.
