‘May 15 and July 10…Book it’ – Michael Chandler offers himself to face Conor McGregor

Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor’s tweet has sent the entire lightweight division to a tizzy, especially the top 5. The Irishman mercilessly denied fighting Dustin Poirier on the 10th of July, claiming that he would be fighting someone else (probably the winner of Michael Chandler vs Charles Oliveira). It all started when Dustin Poirier mentioned that he never heard from Conor and his team regarding the payment to his charity.

In the wake of this, Michael Chandler who will be taking on Charles Oliveira at UFC 262 for the vacant lightweight title, has expressed his desire to step in and fight Conor McGregor on the 10th of July. Taking to Twitter, the UFC newcomer mentioned that he wanted the fight booked for the 10th of July.

Michael Chandler is a man on a mission!

“May 15 and July 10…book it! #backtoback”, Chandler tweeted.

Michael Chandler sprung right into the top 5 of the lightweight rankings after making an impressive UFC debut at UFC 257. The American defeated the lanky Dan Hooker in only the first round, via. a vicious knockout. And now, in only his second match, he will be fighting for the lightweight title.

Conor McGregor on the other hand, is coming off a loss against Dustin Poirier in their rematch at UFC 257. A trilogy fight was on the cards, until this day, before things got awry a while back, and Conor expressed his desire to fight someone else. Hence, if Chandler manages to get past Oliveira, a fight against Conor is a surety, but will that not be risking the title against a much lower ranked opponent?
