‘I saw Derrick Lewis do a devastating KO…That was the ‘Fight of the Year’ knockout’ – Mike Tyson amazed with Derrick Lewis’s knockout of Curtis Blaydes

Derrick Lewis put on a clinic against Curtis Blaydes at a recently concluded UFC Fight Night in February, earlier this year. The match which was a huge upset, saw Lewis knockout Blaydes in only the second round, with devastating power. Lewis had come into the fight as an overwhelming underdog (+350), and put the entire heavyweight division on alert after ‘that knockout’.

Speaking about this in a recent episode of Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, alongside UFC President Dana White as the guest, Mike Tyson revealed that Derrick Lewis vs Curtis Blaydes is the ‘Fight of the Year’ according to him. He seemed particularly impressed with Derrick Lewis’s devastating KO, especially the second punch Lewis landed on a battered Blaydes.

‘I want to see him fight Rozenstruik’

Mike Tyson was quoted as saying, “So listen man, I like the heavyweights that they have. I saw Derrick Lewis do a devastating KO. That was the ‘Fight of the Year.’ Knockout. Sleeping. He was sleeping. But you know what scared me? The second punch he hit him with. It didn’t look like it hit him, but man. That second one, oh God. I’m glad he’s okay after that.” [via BJPenn.com]

Tyson further revealed that he would like to see Derrick Lewis take on Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Speaking of which he said, “I want to see him fight Rozenstruik”.

The win against Blaydes propelled Derrick Lewis to number 2 in the heavyweight division rankings. He has already fought once for the title, against Daniel Cormier in 2018, which he eventually lost. ‘The Black Beast’ will be looking forward to keeping his juggernaut rolling and grab an opportunity to gun for the title, once again.
