Prime Minister Narendra Modi leapt praises for the Indian women team’s skipper Mithali Raj for her contribution to world cricket. PM Modi congratulated Raj for becoming the first Indian woman cricketer to have made ten thousand runs. He also hailed ace shuttler PV Sindhu during the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat.

Talking about Mithali, PM Modi said: “Recently Mithali Raj Ji has become the first Indian woman cricketer to have made ten thousand runs. Many congratulations to her on this achievement. She also is the only international woman player to score seven thousand runs one-day internationals.

“Her contribution in the field of women’s cricket is fabulous, Mithali Raj Ji has inspired millions during her more than two-decades-long career. The story of her perseverance and success is an inspiration not just for women cricketers but for men cricketers too,” PM Modi said.

Excellent performances by Indian men and women shooters: PM

ISSF World Cup

PM Modi also talked about the achievement of Indian shooters during the recently-concluded ISSF World Cup. India hosted the multi-nation tournament and emerged as medal tally toppers with 30 medals. This included 15 gold, nine silver and six bronze. He also talked about India’s pride in badminton, PV Sindhu who recently clinched the silver medal in the BWF Swiss Open Super 300 Tournament.

“It is interesting that in the month of March when we celebrate women’s day, many women athletes won medals and created records. In the ISSF World Cup, being held in New Delhi, India is at the top of the medal tally. In the gold medal tally also, India is at the top. It was made possible by excellent performances by Indian men and women shooters. Also, PV Sindhu won a silver medal in the BWF Swiss Open Super 300 Tournament,” he said.
