“Feels incredible” – Anthony Santander hits Orioles’ first walk-off home run since 2019 in 9-6 win over Yankees

Anthony Baltimore fought hard against the Yankees, coming back from a 5-3 deficit with a three-run inning in the sixth.

The Baltimore Orioles were a bit unlucky at-bats away from getting swept by the New York Yankees at home when outfielder Anthony Santander stepped up to the plate with two runners on in the bottom of the ninth. Earlier, the 27-year-old had a multi-home run game in a 2-6 defeat and was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

The timing seemed even more right as he launched a three-run walk-off home run, giving the Orioles a 9-6 win. Notably, the O’s are currently struggling at the last spot with just 15 wins in the AL group of the American League.

Amazing!” Santander exclaimed in English, before elaborating through team interpreter Brandon Quinones, as quoted by MLB.com. “It feels incredible finally having my first walk-off. I dedicate it to my parents [in attendance on Thursday], who have been there supporting me the entire way through since I was a little kid.”

“We can hopefully continue these at-bats going forward”

The most important thing is just not even focus on it,” Santander said. “The most important thing is trying to make hard contact, and when you do, that thing is going to fly out of the park.”

It’s a reward for them,” said Orioles manager Brandon Hyde. “It’s been a tough stretch. We played great in St. Louis, we don’t swing the bat real well in Detroit. … [We] lost two one-run games here against the Yankees, and then win the last game of the series. Hopefully, we can start to continue to take these sorts of at-bats going forward.”
