Major League Soccer Postpones Slate Of Games Amid Sports Boycotts – Deadline

The Major League Soccer has taken a decision to abandon matches in the wake of Jacob Blake shooting. Blake, a 29-year-old African American was shot and injured by police on Sunday. The unfortunate incident took place in front of Blake’s family. Since then, protests have fired up the American states which forced MLS to abandon matches.

Just like in the case of George Floyd, the fans called on the league to take a stand against such violence by cancelling the games. The fans demanded MLS to show solidarity towards the Black Community. This week’s matches started with Orlando City taking on Nashville, with the game being completed. However, all the other games were called off.

MLS Statement

“The entire Major League Soccer family is deeply saddened and horrified by the senseless shooting of Jacob Blake and events in Kenosha. We continue to stand with the black community throughout our country. Including our players, and employees and share in their pain, anger and frustration.”

“The entire Major League Soccer family unequivocally condemns racism and has always stood for equality, but we need to do more to take tangible steps to impact change. We will continue to work with our players, our clubs and the broader soccer community to harness our collective power to fight for equality and social justice.”
