“A win is still a win”- Corey Anderson bites back at Scott Coker for trying to undermine Logan Storley victory at Bellator 281

In the main event of Bellator 281, Logan Storley fought Michael Page for the interim Bellator welterweight title. Corey Anderson backs Logan’s win after . Previously, Page was scheduled to fight the champion Yaroslav Amosov, but the Ukrainian went back to his country to fight against the Russian invasion.

The fight was extremely frustrating to watch and score for the judges. Stoley kept his distance and later after getting a takedown continued to control the game on the ground. This happened throughout the fight and Storley didn’t give any chance to Page to come back. After the fight, Storley won the bout via split decision.

After the event, in the post fight press conference Bellator president Scott Coker revealed that he is not that impressed with the fight and the judgement. He said :

Honestly, I thought that ‘MVP’ won that fight..you(referring to Storley) can’t just lay on somebody.’ You’re not doing any damage. You’re not getting closer to a submission. You’re not creating any threat. You’re just laying on somebody — and to me, that’s not MMA,”

The comments made by Coker was later posted by MMA Fighting on their Twitter.

Bellator’s light heavyweight champion, Corey Anderson retweeted the tweet and shared his own views on the incident. He explained, wrestling and wrestling in MMA are two different things. In MMA wrestling is combined with punches, kicks, Jiu Jitsu and ground and pound. Corey Anderson claimed that win is win despite anything.

Like I said… there’s wrestling and then there’s MMA wrestling. One is just wrestling while the other is boxing, kicks, faints to your wrestling. Using jiu jitsu and ground and pound to try to get to a finish. But a win is still a win REGARDLESS! #Bellator281,” wrote Corey Anderson.

Fighters who predominantly use wrestling in MMA frequently face criticism for not getting into striking exchanges. It’s the same in any MMA promotion, not just Bellator. Many fans believe that winning a fight only by wrestling is boring and not entertaining enough to watch. Similarly, many also enjoy a great wrestling showdown between two fighters as it is a very technical and gruesome showdown. The debate around the use and dominance of wrestling in MMA is a never ending debate and it’s nowhere near the end.
