Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers lost 6-1 in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday. Following the game, the 8-time MLB All-Star did not mince his words and admitted that he has been terrible in the Fall Classic against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Apart from Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, the Dodgers’ offense has not clicked in the World Series. After their 6-2 loss in Game 4, manager Dave Roberts spoke about this slump of the team and expressed that the team had not found its rhythm.
Betts is one of those who has struggled the most. The 3-time World Series winner has found it difficult in the batter’s box.
On Wednesday, Roberts made some lineup changes. He would put Betts as the No.3 hitter instead of No.2 behind Ohtani. Catcher Will Smith got the nod to play as the No.2 hitter instead.
The changes did not bring any positive results for the Dodgers and Betts. The shortstop went 0-for-4 in the game and struck out twice against Trey Yesavage. He is now 3-for-23 in the series with a .130 batting average and has failed to produce any runs.
While speaking with the reporters after the game, the 33-year-old expressed that he has no answers regarding his slump in form.
I don’t want to speak on anybody else. But for me personally, I’ve just been terrible, been terrible. I wish it was from lack of effort. I really do, but it’s not, so I don’t have any answers.

The year 2025 has been a bit tricky for Mookie Betts. He had a similar slump in batting during the regular season as well, going on a 0-for-22 streak in August. He would end this hitless streak with a home run against Max Scherzer during the Blue Jays’ visit to Dodger Stadium for a 3-game series.
The ex-Boston Red Sox star also had some health issues at the start of the season. Following a mysterious illness, he would lose around 15 pounds of weight.
David Ortiz gave some advice to Mookie Betts before Game 5
The skid in the form of Mookie Betts in the World Series has been a huge concerning factor for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Before Game 5, one of his former teammates, David Ortiz, gave some advice and shared a message to him.

During the pregame show on Fox, Alex Rodriguez would bring up the form of Betts and speak with Ortiz. The former New York Yankees star would ask the 14-time All-Star what he would say to the Dodgers star at this moment.
The MLB Hall of Famer expressed that his level of confidence needs to go back to where it normally is.
Your level of confidence needs to go back to where they normally used to be. You’re one of the greatest players to have ever played this game. You’re healthy. You’re very talented. You play a hell of a defense. But you gotta go to home plate with that beastmode that you have in you, kid.

These encouraging words from “Big Papi” failed to make any difference. Betts went hitless in Game 5 as the Dodgers ended up losing 6-1. He, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman combined to go 0-for-11 with 6 strikeouts.
There is no more room for error for Betts and the Dodgers now. Following a day break on Thursday, the two teams will take to the field at Rogers Centre for Game 6.
The Blue Jays have a good record in Game 6 of the World Series. Both of their triumphs in 1992 and 1993 took place in Game 6. A win for the Dodgers on Friday will enforce Game 7, the first Game 7 in the World Series since 2019.
