Irrfan Khan, one of Bollywood’s most beloved stars who had achieved great success not in Bollywood but also in Hollywood, has died aged 53.
He had been admitted to the intensive care unit of Mumbai’s Kokilaben hospital on Tuesday with a colon infection and on Wednesday morning a statement was released confirming his death.
Despite his status as one of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors, Khan had a reputation for modesty and integrity and news of his death sent us into mourning. Actors, fans and politicians from across the world to express their sadness at his death.
Fellow Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan said Khan’s death left a “huge vacuum”. “An incredible talent, a gracious colleague, a prolific contributor to the world of cinema … left us too soon,” tweeted Bachchan.
“The charisma you brought to everything you did was pure magic,” tweeted Priyanka Chopra. “Your talent forged the way for so many in so many avenues. You inspired so many of us. Irrfan Khan you will truly be missed. Condolences to the family.”

The film is about a child Manu (Tapas Dhali) who belongs to a poor family and loves to play football but no one accept him to play in their team because of his family background however Anupam a football coach (Irrfan Khan) finds Manu talented and decides to coach him.
After spending some time coaching Manu, The coach Anupam thinks that Manu is eligible and decides to play him in a semifinal match for his club but other players and their parents declined to play with Manu because his father is a thief and he belongs to a lower caste. Anupam finds himself helpless and doesn’t want such a talent to die so he puts Manu in rival team to play against his own club.
- Paan Singh Tomar
Paan Singh Tomar is a 2012 Indian biographical film based on the true story of the athlete of the same name. A soldier in the Indian Army, he won a gold medal at the Indian National Games, but was forced to become a rebel against the system. The film was directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. Irrfan Khan played the title role, with Mahie Gill, Vipin Sharma and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the supporting cast.
