One of the biggest points of debate in the NASCAR community this season has been the playoffs format. Majority in the community demanded scrapping the current format, that crown he champion based on one race a 36-race schedule and a return to the legacy full-season format that rewards consistency over clutch moments.

Trackhouse Racing majority owner Justin Marks on his latest interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio shared his thoughts on the debate and disagreements in the community. He admitted that attempting the one race finale was a good experiment, considering NASCAR was in a transitional period when the decision was made, but now it’s no longer viable.

I think that the one race final championship was worth trying. I really do. It was a very transitional time in the history of NASCAR. I think it was a good experiment. I don’t think that’s the right thing for the future. There is a balance between the final and 36 full races. But I think that the last race, the champion needs to be crowned by the person that performs the best…

Furthermore, the part-time racer/owner pointed the playoffs format isn’t good for the sport. He admitted that NASCAR was able to produce more entertaining moments by adopting it, but they were sacrificing credibility for excitement. So, they have to now find balance by going back the full-season format every racing championship around the world uses.

Now I know that sounds like me saying 36 races. I think a playoff thing is important, and it’s important to sort of build excitement towards the end. But I don’t think it is good for the sport not to take anything about five, eleven, whatever. I really just don’t. So, I think there’s a balance there.

These sponsors include the likes of Busch Light, Kubota, Jockey, Freeway Insurance, Worldwide Express, Red Bull, Wendy’s and more. They also have ventures in other racing series such as Moto GP that generates solid revenue for the team to sustain and develop.

Talking about this factor on his latest interview, he admitted that they have been very successful with keeping the value proposition. Them being authentic with their mission and just as the people involved in the team, played a significant role in their success so far.

There’s a lot of ways companies can spend money, and we just need to make sure as an industry that the price point of getting involved in NASCAR doesn’t outpace the value proposition. For us, we’ve been very successful at it just because we’ve been very authentic about our mission, authentic people, and work really hard to create a great experience at the race track for people.

The comments from the owner driver seems rational and on point regarding the business of the sport. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the team under Marks in the coming years.
