Allmendinger tried to shove Chastain wide to take the lead to himself in Turn 15 as the close racing continued until the turn 17, which allowed Alex Bowman to have his short at the lead.

Coming to Turn 19 with the three-man racing bumper to bumper trying to force opponents from their way to take the lead, Ross Chastain made his move and shoved Allmendinger to Alex Bowman, which made AJ spin out to the gravel.  He finished 33rd after failing to make a solid comeback.

AJ Allmendinger was quick to acknowledge the efforts put in by Kaulig Racing to ensure his success in the Cup Series as the Xfinity series. He went on to say that he is comfortable with the fact that moves ought to be made in order to secure wins in competitive Cup Series Races and said if he had two more corners before the chequered flag he would have ensured a win for the team in Austin.

At the end of the day, we all got to look at ourselves in the mirror and be OK with it. Each person’s different. So more than anything [I’m] proud of Kaulig Racing. The Action Industries Chevy was so fast. I think if we could have just a long run, nobody was going to touch us. Pit stops were great,” AJ Allmendinger said.

As I said, at the end of the day, each person’s got to make the move that they’re comfortable with and that’s fine. We know we had a shot to win the race; It’s tough to win a Cup race, so when you put yourself in a position to legitimately run up front all day and have a shot to win it, it’s a pretty great day. Unfortunately [we] needed about two more corners,” Allmendinger added.
