Draymond Green believes the Golden State Warriors would have struggled to dominate the NBA without Kevin Durant

Draymond Green has been one of the smartest players in the league as being part of the title contending team, the Golden State Warriors. The former defensive player of the year had a few words to say about the time former teammate Kevin Durant joined the Warriors.

He believes the Warriors team would not have been able to continue dominating the league if it were not for Durant signing with them. Of course the team was fresh off winning a title but according to Green it was only a matter of time before they were figured out.

Draymond Green: “It got a lot tougher”

Draymond Green claimed that the league around the Warriors was trying be them and that the competition got tougher. “I don’t think that we would have continued on without Kevin,” he said.

“Everybody started defending us a certain way, and it got a lot tougher. Every team in the NBA has started building their team to compete against us, to be able to guard us, to literally match us. So I think as great as it was – and I have no doubt in my mind we would have been right there again – I do also think it was getting way tougher for us to figure out.” he further explained.

“And then we added Kevin and it wasn’t.” he said. Though the Warriors won a champion chip they were still on the verge of losing to the Houston Rockets and they ended up losing to the Toronto Raptors in 2019 after Durant sat out the entire finals due to an injury.

Kevin Durant on why he left the Warriors

Durant has openly admitted to reasons that made him leave the Warriors and join the Brooklyn Nets. According to him, he felt that it was time for him to move to a different venture as he had already achieved what he could during his time with the Warriors.

Another reason given by Durant was the on court fight that took place between Draymond and him during a Clippers game in November 2018. Since then, both players have reconciled and Durant later said that it did not matter but what affected his decision to leave was the way Warriors staff handled the situation almost as if they did not care.

This year it seems like the Nets and Warriors will face each in the finals. The history between players will definitely make it all the more interesting to witness.
