Magic Johnson recently appearing on Get Up ESPN blamed LeBron James for the unsuccessful season of Los Angeles Lakers. The Los Angeles Lakers have proved how consistently inconsistent the team is when it comes to winning games and improving their record to make it to the postseason. The most credit for the situation the Lakers are as of now stuck in goes to the veteran roster they signed before the season even started and claimed to be a championship contender. LeBron James also known as LeGM hand-picked all those veterans who now are a big problem around because of team chemistry issues, less mobility and injuries. The regular season is about to end and still, the team hasn’t suited up with a completely healthy roster even for once.
Currently, the Los Angeles Lakers under the leadership of LeBron James are ranked as the eleventh seed in the western conference of the league with the record of 32 wins and 47 losses at .397. The team is maintaining a losing streak of six very important games and as of now is out of the picture to even make it to the post-season as they don’t even fit in the play-in tournament as of now. The reality has been very disappointing for the Los Angeles Lakers. The team has also disappointed the owner Jeanie Buss, Lakers Nation, former players, and especially Lakers Legend Magic Johnson who is a Hall of Famer, member of NBA 75, and ex-president of basketball operations for the team.
Magic Johnson recently revealed where it all went wrong during the offseason signings and how the front office messed up the roster while not listening to his advice. Since he is still around the team and franchise. Magic Johnson is already frustrated with the team as he has showcased it to the world on Twitter, now with him blaming LeBron James for the losing record of the Lakers things won’t really be good in the office for King James.
Magic Johnson blames LeBron James for Los Angeles Lakers’ struggles
Magic Johnson wanted DeMar DeRozan to be a Laker even though DeMar was also interested to sign here and play alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But LeBron James instead went on to sign Russell Westbrook where he gave away the young and improved core of the team. Discussing this at Get Up ESPN Magic Johnson quoted: “The blame that he’s got to take is the fact that DeRozan ended up in Chicago and not with the Lakers. DeRozan wanted to play for the Lakers and when I got the call from his agent, [Aaron Goodwin], I called the Lakers, and said, ‘Hey he wants to come home,’ DeRozan wanted to be a Laker instead of a Bull.”
Further Magic Johnson adding how it all went wrong and how it affected the roster quoted: “We could’ve made that deal. But when Russell and LeBron started talking, that’s when they nixed that deal and went with Westbrook and he became a laker instead of DeRozan. I think with DeRozan you had the chance to keep your role players Caruso, KCP all those guys who are best defenders all those guys left and that’s why we are a bad defensive team. If you signed DeRozan and you only trade [Kyle] Kuzma for Buddy Hield, we would be playing in the Western Conference championship this year with those two guys.”
DeMar DeRozan and Buddy Hield playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis is surely a championship contender team but so is the one they have built with some mistakes. Magic Johnson’s imaginary roster is so far the better one but unfortunately, the reality is disappointing and the Lakers struggle all because of some wrong picks made by LeBron James. The season will soon end for the Lakers if they don’t win all of their remaining matches while San Antonio Spurs falls short for most of their match-up so the Lakers can jump in as the tenth seed.
