“I don’t know if he wants to chase Michael Jordan?” Jackie MacMullan gets real on LeBron James leaving Lakers in order to win another NBA ring

Father Time is slowly catching up to LeBron James as well. He’s already missed more games in the past five seasons than the previous 14 combined.

Who would’ve thought that LeBron James and his Laker army would be just two games away from ending one of the biggest implosions in NBA history, but it has indeed become a reality. Having to start the season as one of the championship favorites, the Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling with one or the other problem. As a result of which, the King has been shoved aside from chasing his 5th NBA ring.

So, does that make Michael Jordan superior in the GOAT race over LeBron James? Jackie MacMullan decided to deliver his brutally honest take. The award-winning sports journalist was a guest on the Ryen Russillo Podcast, wherein he put some perspective on the Los Angeles Lakers’ title aspirations in the 2022-23 season.

Macmullan stated, “Doesn’t he [James] wanna catch Michael [Jordan]? I don’t know what’s most important to him now… Trying to catch Michael or making sure he controls his own destiny so he can play with his son?… You can’t tell me that he doesn’t wanna catch Michael.

“And if he stays with the Lakers how on earth is he gonna do that? How? What flexibility do they have for their roster next year? They’re locked into those guys. What are they gonna do?”

Given that LeBron James’ contract assures his stay in Hollywood till the end of 2022-23 season, the Lakers will surely do everything in their power to extend the stay of the King, no matter what. Moreover, with the sudden fall in the form and harmony of the purple and gold, LeBron might find his championship ring with another team, at least in near future.

That being said, after the despiteful 2021-22 season, one of Russell Westbrook or Anthony Davis is surely going to make way for another marquee player to support LeBron James. But will it be enough for the King to make LA rise to supremacy? Only time will unravel all answers as we focus upon 2021-22 postseason.
