Well, there are some reasons for Magic’s disinterest in the series, one of them being that there are different shows being made by them on Lakers era in the 80s. One is supposed to appear on Apple TV+ the other one being made by HBO. The HBO series is being made with the blessing of the team owner.

HBO production not exactly a documentary on Lakers

The other reason might be that the HBO production on Lakers is a docudrama, which means that there are certain scenes that have been altered to meet the storyline. The teaser can be evidence for this as we could see that the scenes have been altered up to some extent.

So yes this doesn’t appear to be an authorized version as to why would a team like Lakers would tie to a story which is having altered scenes according to the storyline and damaging their reputation rather than showing their players’ journey which would cater better to their fans.
